Peace Poles

The Rotary Club of Devonport North is proud to be part of the international Peace Pole Project, a grassroots initiative that promotes peace, hope and unity across the globe.

Peace Poles are simple yet powerful monuments, each inscribed with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages. They serve as constant reminders for peace, standing in schoolyards, public gardens and community spaces around the world.

Our club began supporting the project to help share this important message with our local community. Working closely with schools and local groups, we’ve helped bring Peace Poles to the forefront here in Northwest Tasmania.

To date, Peace Poles have been installed at the following schools in Devonport and surrounds:

  • Miandetta Primary School

  • Devonport Primary School

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School

  • Nixon Street Primary School

  • Spreyton Primary School

  • East Devonport Primary School

  • Hillcrest Primary School

Across Tasmania, there are now 85 Peace Poles either installed, on order or in progress. This number continues to grow. We’ve recently received approval to begin engaging with high schools, and an exciting new chapter of the project is about to begin.

Each Peace Pole we install is a quiet but powerful statement of our commitment to building a better, more peaceful world. It all starts right here in our own backyard.
