The City of
Devonport lies on the banks of the Mersey River situated
in North-West Tasmania and has a population of
approximately 25000 people. The City is called the
“Gateway to Tasmania", as the passenger ferries Spirit
of Tasmania I and II travel daily between Devonport and
Melbourne. Devonport is
surrounded
by a very rich agricultural area which produces a vast
range of products for local, interstate and
international markets. It is also a base for tourism in
the north west of the state with the
major attraction of Cradle Mountain
Lake St. Clair National Park
less than two hours away by car or bus.
